3.5/5 ★ – fabrici0sf's review of The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story.

The Mageseeker, before launch, felt like the perfect game for me to put expectations into. Its pixel-art style and great music, almost like an indie game(Despite being made by Riot Games), in addition to the great story it promised to tell about Sylas - I, as a League player, always loved Sylas' story. This game felt like it promised a lot for me, personally. In practice, though, it did not live up to what I expected. Don't get me wrong - I still found it to be a great game. The combat is amazing and by far the best part of it, the artstyle lived up to it with masterful pixel-art, music is really good - But it felt like a project bigger than could be handled. Before I start criticizing it, I gotta say - the boss battles in the main campaign are CATHARTIC. Absolutely mind-boggling. Bonkers. I love them. They were definitely the best moment of the entire game for me. For example, your HQ has a map with a set of missions - supposed to always have your main quest and a few sidequests. The thing is, there is always your main quest and only two sidequests, which are both absurdly repetitive. One of them features a whole lot ot copy/paste bosses, while the other one has an encounter relatively important to the League universe, but guess what - it's not a new boss fight, they just recycled one of the first bosses again. I feel like if the sidequests were completely discarded and it was just focused on the main quest, I'd be mostly satisfied with it., if it wasn't for cost-benefit. Honestly, I don't know how relevant this is in other countries - Apparently, in the US, the price is a good average - but this game's cost-benefit in Brazil is a joke. It was R$80,00 for a 15-hour game, which is very expensive. A lot of games greater than it and with a much longer playtime and replayability cost around R$30,00 to R$50,00.
