3.5/5 ★ – gabicus's review of Blue Prince.
As someone whose really grown to love indie puzzles games the last couple years I was super excited for Blue Prince. This is one of the most addicting gameplay loops I've played full of some really rewarding surprises. The way they manage to mix puzzles with a roguelike format and tell a rich story in the process is very impressive. Despite all that I did walk away slightly soured on the experience. If I were to evaluate this game as a purely puzzle game, I would continue to praise it. But its not just a puzzle game and I do think the roguelike mechanics eventually hurt the overall experience. A good roguelike gradually rewards you with ways to beat the loop. Blue Prince offers some rewards to help mitigate the RNG but not nearly enough. There are so many mysterious I know I could solve if I could just get the perfect sequence of events....but I don't have the time nor the patience for that. It’s a shame because I would've love to keep uncovering the endgame but it’s too frustrating a process to keep playing.
