4.5/5 ★ – gabicus's review of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus isn’t the Pokémon game of my dreams. Instead, it’s the Pokémon game I didn’t know I needed. I spent 30hrs on this game in what could take you anywhere from 15-20hrs. I spent so much time on it because the gameplay loop had me hooked from beginning to end. The loop of discovering an area, catching every new Pokémon I see, and then working to complete most entries is surprisingly fun and rewarding. Arceus really nails the sense of discovery when you stumble upon a new Pokémon like a Kadabra or something more rare like a Rilou.
Something I’ve always wanted is a more immersive Pokémon game with a great story. While this story isn’t going to win any writing awards, it’s a huge improvement over previous entries imo. You end up spending way more time with the side characters in this game and I really enjoyed that. The fact that your character is a stranger to this land also helps make it feel more immersive. I was interested in the story throughout most of my play through which is more then I can say for previous entries.
All in all, this was a leap forward and I’m so excited to see where this Legends series goes from here.
