4/5 ★ – gabicus's review of Sons of the Forest.

In almost every way Sons Of The Forest is the sequel I wanted. And the best part is because of Early Access it’ll continue to improve. My two main criticisms from the original game were the combat and the story progression. Thankfully those are among the biggest improvements in the game. Combat feels responsive while still retaining that grounded feel. The inclusion of the GPS makes navigating the island so much easier and helps guide you to those story moments. The beginning of the game is particularly exciting as you’re making a lot of discoveries and getting tools much faster than you did in the first game. I had a blast playing this in co-op. Helping each other survive and fighting cannibals together remains a great way to experience this game. The ending was even more insane than the first game but could definitely be improved. And while the journey getting there was a lot better than the first game, there are some bumps to be smoothed out before a 1.0 release. Overall, it’s a great survival co-op game even in early access and I have high hopes it’ll be even better once it releases in full.
