5/5 ★ – galpalkirk's review of The Talos Principle 2.
Incredible sequel to an incredible game. As absolutely addictive as the first one. A game that makes you think in more than one way. You’re not only expanding your mind while solving puzzles but also while considering questions of morality, progress and humanity.
I only have beef with two things:
The first is that some of the star puzzles are so fucking boring so don’t save them all until last the way I did. Learn from my mistake. They would be fine if they didn’t make you run around miles and miles back and forth across the map to basically move one thing at a time. And then do that for the next 23 star puzzles.
The second is that *spoilers ahead* the true ending only had male voices monologuing which is only a beef with me because Alexandra Drennan’s voice and thoughts are so important to the series (including Athena having the Alexandra Drennan ”voice pack”) and yet you only hear that voice if you choose one of the other endings, aside from a small scene at the very end. Meanwhile I don’t care that much about Cornelius so why is he monologuing at me. Prometheus is of course there because of thematic relevance to the choice you made but it also still means we get three male voices monologuing in a row which was kinda eh. Where are my hugely plot relevant women??? It’s not a huge beef because the game is fucking good but the narration at the end didn’t hit as much for me as it could have because of this.
Byron is my homeboy though, love that guy. Blast off into cybersex Byron. You’re a legend.
On a sidenote I also wish that Alcatraz would’ve been included in the epilogue. Reunite these fuckers. Let them have their 15th divorce of the century. I’m obsessed with them.
