4/5 ★ – gocki's review of Hotel Dusk: Room 215.
Short summary: A slowly told mystery/crime story with fun dialouges, likeable characters and simple puzzles, which are still refreshing due to the usage of the DS's hardware in various ways. However it might get become a bit annoying when having to run around while figuring out what to do next.
The most impressive aspect of the game to me is the game's art, especially the characters. So I will write about this for the rest of this text, so feel free to stop reading if you are not interested:
Most of the time the characters are drawn in black and white and surrounded by a white border. They look like cut-out pictures drawn with a pencil on a piece of paper. The reduction makes gestures and mimic stand out more.
Also the characters are not displayed using a single picture, but as a looping sequence of pictures where only the outlines and the shades changes a bit. This creates some kind of flickering, making the characters feel more vivid. Also the fact that these figures look like drawing can be understood as a small meta reference to the game's plot.
