4/5 ★ – gocki's review of Super Mario Odyssey.
A fantastic platformer with many creative gameplay ideas and beautiful worlds.
The controls are great, however it feelt a bit annoying to me that the game encourages me to use the motion controls: I use the switch as handheld with the controllers attached to it and I do not want to use it any other way. I usually play with it while travelling or in bed, so I even can't use it any other way properly. So it is frustrating that sometimes there are only explanations how to do certain moves using motion controls, so I have to find out how to do those moves any other way by myself.
While the plot is the usual, quite boring "rescue the damsel in distress", the ending is quite interesting (Spoiler). After rescuing princess Peach, Browser and Mario both try to persuade the princess into marriage. However peach ignores them both and leaves them behind. Afterwards the princess is missing again - but it turns out that this time she is travelling by herself and visiting several places in the game. This little bit of emancipation feels really refreshing for this franchise and I hope that in future titles the female figures are not anymore only the damsel in distress.
