5/5 ★ – graves's review of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
10/10🔥🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely extraordinary game, completely flew under the radar for me and I’m absolutely blown away by the ending and the overall character plot. The direction, the misdirection of the fake epilogue into the absolutely most insane revelations I’ve had in a game in a long long time.
The combat? Absolutely phenomenal. It flows so well alongside the dodging mechanics, parrying mechanics, upgraded weapons, the character selection, the party selection you have. The characters are all unique and absolutely insanely fun to play with in their own right.
The world building, the locations, absolutely beautiful. Watercolour paintings of pictures, absolutely phenomenal style to everything. You can definitely tell they’ve taken some notes out of Atlus’s book from the Persona series on that.
And the music, bruuuuu! don’t even know how to start with the music. It has to be up there in the top three soundtracks in gaming history for me. Lorien Testard has absolutely smashed this score out of the water, every track is an absolute banger and the boss music is always so hype!
I’d say I prefer this music over Dark Souls music. It really hits. The story is insanely tragic and grief laden, yet really enlightening. I love the fact that there isn’t a good ending it always has a negative impact for one of the characters. It really just goes to show that you cannot have a ‘perfect’ ending, suits the games themes.
I really don’t have anything bad to say. This game is an easy 10 out of 10, absolutely phenomenal. It’s probably up there with the GOATs for me. Insane work from a team of just over 30 people they deserve all the praise they’re getting.
