3/5 ★ – guished_foobi's review of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.
Moderately fun rogue-like / dungeon crawler. A lot shorter than I thought it was going to be. I guess most of the depth here comes from doing different runs with different characters and going through all the different layers of the basement one after another. But still, I would have liked a little more to play through.
On the plus side, I really like the power ups you find throughout your run and how they physically change what your character looks like for the remainder of that run. That adds a really cool element of consequence to pair with the items you collect along the way.
The controls also felt solid and simple enough to pick up and go and immediately have a pretty good understanding of how to play well. But the lack of complexity is a bit of a double edged sword in that capacity. If there were more permanent upgrades to add a sense of progression (ie. like Hades) I might find myself wanting to play this for a lot more than I already have.
At the current moment I kinda just feel like I've seen everything this game has to offer and it's good, but just good.
