When you’re actually playing the game it’s one of the best stealth games ever. The mechanics are incredibly ahead of its time and it would have been a masterpiece had it focused on what it does well. Unfortunately, Kojima can’t seem to get out of his own way. MGS2 goes for the same B-movie, over the top, action thriller story that MGS1 did, but takes multiple wrong turns where MGS1’s story succeeded. The story’s redemption waits until the last hour of the game where, truthfully, I was floored. It even almost saves the rest of the games story. Almost.
