5/5 ★ – herodotis's review of Blue Prince.

It's really difficult to put into words my opinion about Blue Prince. Wandering into it blindly, without ever hearing anything about it, playing for 3 hours and then checking to see the critics' thoughts and agreeing with them--this might be the best puzzle game ever created. It made me feel stupid, made me feel like a genius, made me feel hopeless, euphoric, angry, calm, emotional, and desperate; all in about 13 hours it took me to finish it. Blue Prince is a roguelike which includes a good portion of RNG that will frustrate you. However, like in all games in this genre, Blue Prince included, you gain some permanent upgrades to take with you. While you have those, the game offers you something very important that I have not seen in any roguelike: knowledge and curiosity. These are invaluable, in the sense that despite having a bad run (I got stuck on 5-6 rooms in one of mine), each one has a piece of knowledge that will turn the game on its head and give you a boost in the following day of exploration. It is a marvel, and despite finishing it, I still crave more and thankfully, I have so many things left to uncover, be it rooms, puzzles that I could not solve, mysteries and backstory, so, so many things left to wander and discover. It certainly is a one of a kind experience. It gave me emotions akin to Disco Elysium and a sense of discovery that, frankly, I have sidelined ever since I grew up and left my childish curiosity behind. Play it and do not rush. Allow you to wander and discover everything yourself. It is worth it.
