4.5/5 ★ – hfhow's review of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
A truly impressive showcase of how to use game design to solve a problem nobody really has solved when it comes to games based on action movies. How do you gamify the experience without ludo narrative dissonance. We laugh at the "feeling like" meme, but more so than any other license "feel like this character" games I think Indiana Jones and The Great Circle makes you feel more like Indiana Jones than any other game I have played.
The final open zone level suffers from some bugs and the boxing sidequest/system is a bit frustrating to learn and not deep enough to feel satisfying when you master. Story is honestly pretty good with some great performances and fun placement in the lore, but it does have some video game bullshit within. Great Circle is also a pretty dumb name.
But I really really enjoyed this. It's one of those modern RPGs where the more you immerse yourself into the game and the sometimes clunky feeling systems the more it all makes sense. In a sea of games that feel just the same, I love how there isn't really a lot of stuff you can compare Indiana Jones and the Great Circle too... Other than Indiana Jones films. Which is the point I assume.
