Resident Evil Games Ranked (post-franchise revival)

Ranking the RE games as a newer fan who only came on board in 2017 with Biohazard. 1. RE7: I love this franchise, but hold no nostalgia for the older titles and frankly find the story in the remakes to be downright bad. 7’s story is the only one that’s legitimately great, plus it has immaculate level design, scares and atmosphere which is why it’s the goat! Grips you from the first minutes to the last. 2. RE2: The police station is the highest high I’ve experienced in horror gaming and almost entirely makes up for the last stretch with the drab sewer section and weak writing. 3. RE8: Intentionally all over the place since each henchman’s zone functions as its own homage to a different aspect of RE gameplay. It ultimately works nicely, even if I think the first 2 sections are vastly superior to the last 2. Another RE game that starts strong and slightly tapers off afterwards, I guess. 4. RE4: Incredibly well made and - unlike a lot of the others - consistent in quality from beginning to end. The only downside is I don’t think the source material here is particularly strong. It’s not very scary, the levels are decent but far too linear, the action is repetitive and the writing (which is harder to ignore than ever) is painfully dated. Worth anyone’s time, for sure, but didn’t fully work for me. 5. RE3: Basically a glorified RE2 DLC that I probably enjoyed more than 4 a lot of the time, but mostly is in one ear and out the other.
