4.5/5 ★ – asoola's review of Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ignis.

It’s no surprise to anyone that Ignis Scientia is a very well written character, and his DLC definitely did not disappoint it showed a side to him I never saw before. The well composed character becoming reckless to save his friend? Well that’s a side to Ignis I never knew I needed to see until I played the DLC! It helped me understand his character more clearly behind the composed advisor lays a man who just wants to save his friend no matter the cost. 🥹 The original story that connects to the original ending of FINAL FANTASY XV is fantastic and written very well, seeing how Noctis and Ignis became friends made me emotional. Not only did I like Ignis’s characterization in this DLC but I also loved Noctis’s characterization, him telling Ignis that they shouldn’t stop now to not let the sacrifices of Luna and Regis be in vain showcased how much of a True King Noctis is even if he didn’t realize it yet. Ignis accepting that and vowing to stand by Noctis’s side made me appreciate their friendship even more. The after credit scene made me cry to be honest Noctis telling Ignis he doesn’t have any regrets knowing the fate that awaits him is something I think Ignis needed to hear most because he probably regrets not being able to do more for Noctis. (Personally I think he did all he could) Noctis’s words about having his friends in his heart made me realize that their friendship wasn’t just about being next to the person literally, Ignis and the others gave Noctis the strength to face his hardships head on 🥹 Ignis did a good job as a friend! I just love everything about the main story that connects to the original ending of FINAL FANTASY XV. I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but Ravus’s character is so well done in this DLC and he cares so much about his sister he would’ve done everything to save her but he knew his sister wanted to follow her calling and accepted her choice even if it pains him to do so. ☹️ Amazing character and his relationship with his sister is so well written! Now onto Verse 2 I don’t hate it I promise I am neutral on the ending but before I dive into why let me talk about the positives I said this a lot but the characterization of both Ignis and Noctis in this DLC is very well written and made me appreciate their characters more! And as I said before Ignis just wants to save a friend because that’s what matters most to him and I love that! Noctis stepping up and becoming a responsible King is amazing as well, saying all that you may ask why are you neutral on the ending? And I’ll gladly answer! Verse 2 ending made no sense! My gripe with it is they never explain what Ignis and the others came up with to avert the possibility of Noctis’s sacrifice (not to spoil the Dawn of the Future book but even the book had a reason to why Noctis’s sacrifice is averted) I am all in for friends ending something together but all of them now ending the Starscourge kinda takes away the special thing the original ending had I think! (Not gonna beat around the bush I feel like Noctis’s acceptance of his fate and stepping up as king is gone) If the ending was explained more I would’ve loved it but they never came up with any reason to this conclusion so that’s why I’m neutral on the entire Verse 2 ending. (A+ for effort though!) I know Noctis still steps up as King and now he’s the one ruling and I assume by his appearance is putting up the wall around Insomnia but it’s just not the same to me as his role in the original ending, I don’t know maybe I’m nitpicking 😅 (well that’s just MY opinion) In conclusion: very good DLC with a certain flaw but definitely a well written, emotional, and fantastic DLC. 🧡
