5/5 ★ – asoola's review of Persona 3 Portable.
I finished Persona 3 Portable a while ago and what an emotional experience, I don’t think I felt this way about a game in a while. I really loved the story in the game and the themes it covered themes or topics about life, death, and purpose! it’s written very beautifully and even now the story holds up very well it’s something a lot of us me included can relate to! we sometimes question our purpose in life, we fear death and we sometimes think about our own lives and how we’re living it. I love how the game also talks about bonds and how we can’t live alone or how we can’t get through this life without bonding with a lot of people, friends that will help us get through the hard times. I will talk about spoilers now and that’s the ending the protagonist (in my case was the female protagonist Kotone Shiomi) is easily my second favorite protagonist now she was willing to sacrifice herself if it meant her friends can live in peace and the power she wielded wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the bonds she made in her journey! I read a lot of discussion about “life’s greatest question” and the answer the protagonist found and I personally think the answer is the bonds you make and how you live your life up to the end again going back to life, death, purpose and bonds. If I have to guess the question is probably something like “what’s life biggest treasure?” or “what’s the meaning of life?” it’s all up to interpretation which is why I love this game so much back to the protagonist though the way she was able to keep holding on before she dies because she wanted to fulfill the promise just makes me emotional she cares so much about her bonds with others 🥹 sad details but the hints that she is dying because she was always sleeping or getting tired is so sad ☹️ I’ll talk about characters now and all of them are really good but the highlight was for me at least Aigis and Yukari! I love how Aigis was struggling finding a purpose in life and how she became more alive as the game goes on it’s unfortunate that the purpose she found is no longer possible but still she’s such a well written character, as for Yukari I love how real her dealing with grief was I just love her character very much and how not only her but all the characters dealt with grief and overcame it by having a supportive group by their side, SEES remembering the promise and their bonds at the end is literally the best moment 🫂 anyway an amazing game I’m very glad I got to experience, persona 3 portable will always be a game that touched me deeply and I will never forget it 💙
