5/5 ★ – asoola's review of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy.

I recently replayed the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy and it’s still an amazing trilogy to me, I’ll talk about each game included in the trilogy in this review! Without further ado let’s start! Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Review: I finished my replay of the game and from the moment I played the first episode I remembered the love I had for the franchise! The story is great, all of the characters are well written and complex, not to mention the mysteries behind the cases were also written well and were unexpected in a good way and sometimes in a funny way! I really love how the characters like Maya and Mia Fey, Miles Edgeworth, Ema and Lana Skye all develop as the story progresses, all of the characters I mentioned has their own troubles and their own trauma but they still manage to overcome the troubles before them and slowly heal from the traumatic experiences they suffered. I mentioned Mia Fey above and I know her time was short in this game but her impact on the story and other characters is there, despite having a short time in the game the way she continued being a strong character after her death is the reason why I think her character is fantastic! The protagonist, Phoenix Wright is an amazing protagonist truly, his story and his reason for becoming a defense attorney made me love his character even more and his care for others is admirable! I also loved how the game subtly hints at his low self confidence and how he gains confidence as the game progresses! Protagonist and characters aside the game is really fun to play and the soundtrack is amazing I wasn’t a fan of this franchise from the moment the first game released but listening to the soundtrack immediately transported me to the 2000 and it made me feel nostalgic. Overall it’s a terrific game and an amazing entry to an amazing franchise! Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All Review: I finished my replay of the second game in the Ace Attorney franchise and what a fantastic game this was! The story was brilliant, and once again the returning characters are written well and the new characters are once again complex and well written characters, and the mysteries for this game got crazier in a good way! This game dived into a subject that was present in the first game in a more detailed way and it’s about what being a Lawyer means for Phoenix Wright and what being a Prosecutor means for both Miles Edgeworth and Franziska von Karma, and the answers they gave for each character fits each character perfectly! It’s no longer about having a perfect winning record (Miles and Franziska) or getting a not guilty for a client (Phoenix) it’s about getting the truth and then getting justice based on said truth, I really loved that and I understand why the game is called Justice For All. The character development for all characters especially for Miles and Franziska were amazing I think that last scene with Miles and Franziska in the airport made me love the characters even more and that scene alone made me understand Franziska’s struggles at being a von Karma and why she wanted “revenge”. The protagonist Phoenix Wright shines in this game once again because now he faced something he never faced before as I mentioned above he had to ask himself what being a Lawyer means to him, and his belief in his client for the first time was shook, and I really think him dealing with stuff like that made him learn valuable lessons like trust in others and having friends, etc. His character develops even more in this game and it made me appreciate his character a lot! Episode 4: Farewell, My Turnabout is my favorite episode from this game because for the first time the defendant was actually guilty I think it did something the other episodes didn’t do before and it did it VERY well! Not only Phoenix had to doubt the client but me the player also started suspecting what actually happened I felt what Phoenix felt and that means they did a job well done! As I said for the first game the game is really fun to play and the new features they added were fantastic and fun, the music once again made me feel nostalgic! Overall it’s a brilliant sequel to an amazing first game! Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations Review: I finished my replay of my favorite game in the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, four years later and it remains to be my favorite game! As always the game was really well written, the characters returning and new are written well as always! All of them had amazing character developments and for the returning characters I felt like their character developments finally wrapped up at the end of this game. All of them learned new lessons and they’re now taking those lessons with them and are gonna start a new chapter for themselves. This game cases were really fun and extremely sad at the same time I think this game is the only Ace Attorney game that made me cry as much as I did! (Also the defendant in these cases are really likable I think!) I’d like to dive into a subject the game talked about through the entire game, I think this game theme this time around is “Why do we defend people or protect them?” It’s not just a question for Phoenix it’s a question for all of the characters each character have their own beliefs and loved ones they want to protect (like Misty Fey and Godot) and they’ll do whatever it takes to protect those loved ones, and at the end of the journey each character learned why, this is why I think the characters now can finally start a new chapter in their life (yes even Larry) whether it’s being a great Defense Attorney or being the future Master of Kurain Channeling Technique. I’ll mention that Dahlia Hawthorne is a really great antagonist I think her getting what she deserves is amazing and she’s the kind of antagonist that never fail to make you hate them, kudos to the writers for doing a good job with her character! I want to talk about few characters in detail and I’ll start with the one that the game started with and that is, Mia Fey! I mentioned this when I was talking about her character in the first game but her character impact on the story is there and I can understand why she impacted lots of characters now because I saw her history and her first cases as a rookie defense attorney. She never gave up on her client and even though her first case ended in a tragedy she still returned to defend a young Phoenix Wright and to get justice for the wrong doings Dahlia caused, she never backed down no matter what even when she doubted herself she still kept on fighting her determination is admirable! Mia reason for defending people was because she wanted the truth to be discovered and it’s shown in her cases in these games, she wanted everyone to get proper justice not only for her previous client but also for Diego the love of her life since he was poisoned and almost killed! She returned to the courtroom the moment she realized Dahlia is involved she’s a very smart, determined and kind woman and I love her character so much! These two cases made me understand and appreciate her character even more she’s truly an amazing character that I’ll always love. Next is Godot (Diego Armando) I really believe that the prosecutor characters are always written with flaws and they’re always complex and that’s because I think that’s how the characters grow and learn from their mistakes it happened with Miles Edgeworth and Franziska von Karma and the same can be said for Godot. He’s my favorite new character in this game his story is heartbreaking and he lost everything the moment before he woke up the love of his life was gone and Dahlia Hawthorne the woman that ruined his life got what was coming for her, he was a broken man he felt guilty for being unable to protect Mia which is something the game discusses lots with other characters (example Misty Fey) and instead of acknowledging his feelings on the matter he ran away he threw away his old life and became a prosecutor, he wanted to see if Phoenix was worthy of being a defense attorney. He deflected his guilt and sorrow and blamed Phoenix and as I said it’s because he was dealing with his feelings in an unhealthy manner, he felt I don’t know how to describe it but his feelings were very real he was angry at the world and everyone in it. He knew there was nothing he or Phoenix could’ve done to prevent Mia’s fate but he still felt guilty. Even at the end he wasn’t sure if the way he handled things were right, he didn’t know if he killed Misty (who was channeling Dahlia) to save Maya because he was unable to protect Mia and wanted to do something to protect Maya or because he wanted revenge these complicated feelings are the reason why I think his feelings are very real. At the end though he realized why he blamed Phoenix and when he saw Phoenix face his troubles and continue on living as a defense attorney he realized that’s what he should’ve done, he stopped calling himself Godot and went back to being Diego Armando. He has one of the best character developments in the series I seriously think his character is easily one of the best characters in the entire trilogy! One of my favorite new characters in this game is Iris! I think her character is written extremely well and she also deals with the subject I mentioned above she was willing to do whatever it takes to protect Phoenix from Dahlia. I really loved her relationship with Phoenix it’s very adorable and I really loved how the found family theme that’s always present in Ace Attorney games is also present here, Iris and Sister Bikini mother daughter relationship is written so well they deserve the world. Maya Fey also is handled extremely well in this game I think her responsible and caring side was always hinted at in previous game but this game showed who Maya is as a person, despite feeling sad and exhausted she still was trying to protect Diego Armando because she truly believes he wanted to protect her but also she puts on a brave face so Pearl doesn’t feel responsible or sad for her mother’s actions. She wanted to protect Pearl from feeling guilty, Maya is really strong and mature character and that’s why I’ll always love her character! Pearl is also an amazing character to me honestly despite only being 9 years old her care for others and especially for her cousin makes me glad that she’s nothing like her own mother unlike her mother she isn’t selfish rather she’s selfless and that’s why I think her character is fantastic too! And lastly to end this segment of the review I have to talk about Phoenix Wright! As I said with each game he learns a new lesson and it develops his character in the process and the lesson he learns in this game is no different he didn’t believe he saved Diego Armando but others believe otherwise he saved him in a way that isn’t ordinary he saved him by showing him his determination to find the truth and how he lived his life after his mentor passed away he helped Godot reflect on his own life and how he should live now. Phoenix defending his clients helped not only the clients but Godot as well. Phoenix as Mia says did something even she couldn’t achieve, his amazing work as a rookie defense attorney is an amazing achievement he now understands what being a Lawyer means to him and what it means to defend people and how far he’ll go to protect the people he cares for. And that’s how his journey as a rookie defense attorney comes to an end and how his new chapter begins! Well that’s all I wanted to say this is a very fun trilogy filled with mysteries, fun times and sad times and it has an amazing gameplay and the soundtrack will always make me feel nostalgic! Until next time, Phoenix Wright! 💙
