3/5 ★ – hunkypet's review of Earth's Dawn.

A really bizarre hybrid of a game. Side scrolling action RPG meshed with a beat ‘em Up. You take control of a customisable protagonist part of Earth’s Last Line of Defence against an Alien Invasion. The story is rather by the numbers but has just enough love poured into it to make it engaging. The OTT Japanese voice acting helped me keep engaged as it would always end in me having a chuckle after each cutscene. It’s grindy, very grindy actually and some people love that. I don’t mind it, but it goes hand in hand with the games main attraction - the bonkers upgrade system that has to be the deepest system I have encountered yet. I had fun grinding for gear and skill points just to see what else I could do with my character. It did end up becoming a slog near the end as the difficulty ramps up dramatically and requires vast grinding to even match the enemies levels. Has its charm but rather niche and not sure many people will be speaking about it in years to come Played on PS4 Pro
