3.5/5 ★ – hunkypet's review of Pokémon Ruby.

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire was when I first really fell in love with Pokemon. I beat it over and over, I would try and train all my Pokemon up to stupid levels, use my link cable to swap Pokemon and try and complete the Pokédex. If memory serves me right I’m sure I had a save with 300+ hours. It’s safe to say this game meant a lot to me as a kid. As an adult revisiting, a bit of the magic is indeed lost but much more is intact than I thought. The game just looks beautiful, the GBA was not a powerful console but in the right hands you could have some stunning graphics with gorgeous sprite work. The same goes for sound, all the tunes are as catchy and as memorable as I remember. The 3rd gen Pokemon sit as close to my heart as first gen, I think it’s a pretty solid addition of Pokemon all round with only a handful of duds. For me it was a vast improvement over the GBC games in nearly every way. The inner child in me smiled almost all the way through my time with Ruby. Played on GBA
