2.5/5 ★ – hunkypet's review of Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter.
What a strange, offbeat little game.
To sum it up in one word would be cheesy. It’s cheesy as hell but has tons of charm. It has that low budget feel with its rather mediocre visuals that wouldn’t look out of place on the X360/PS3 and its god awful voice acting.
But once you get into the swing of things solving crimes and piecing together clues to work out who the killer is, it just kind of consumes you. Me and the GF had a really good time playing it, we had just as much fun with the game as actually laughing at how bad the game was at times.
The puzzles are varied and also vary in quality, luckily they can be skipped as some of the lock picking ones were a pain and we decided it wasn’t worth the hassle.
The cases you have to solve are as ridiculous and silly as you’d imagine but it’s perfect for sitting back and relaxing to. It’s nice to play something silly and far fetched instead of something super serious.
One thing I was very impressed with is in the mini free roam sections around the streets of London, the game could look gorgeous. The lighting is really impressive and stands head and shoulders above most games of this budgetary quality.
It’s not a very good game, but in the right mood it can be just the right game. I think about this game all the time, no idea why. That’s a good thing though.. right?
