3/5 ★ – hwljulie's review of PaRappa the Rapper 2.

This game is better than the first one by a lot! In the first one, it was so hard to hit the notes the way the game wants you to, and the way the game wants you to is NOT to the rhythm, so you end up figuring out what the game wants instead of playing to the rhythm. In parappa 2, the leniency for the timing is a lot bigger. There are still slight inconsistencies, like how sometimes i can mess up the notes tremendously and it will count it as correct and if i do it perfectly, it will count as wrong. This happened very few times and i never struggled in the game like i did in the first one. The story in this game is just funny. Its about an apocalypse of noodles. There’s so many absurd little events and jokes that you just have to laugh at how fun and stupid it is. One thing that i highly disliked is that before every level, they make you practice one of the lines of the upcoming levels 10 times before you can play the level. I get that in 2002, the rhythm genre was a newborn baby so people do need practice, but it became grating. I think 10 times is too much and it should’ve been 5-7 times. It got especially worse when what you had to practice became even longer. In the first few levels, you practice 1 line 10 times. In the later half, you practice 2 lines 10 times, so it doubles the time it takes to practice. I timed it and this takes approximately 2 minutes and 20 seconds of just hitting the same notes over and over. What’s even worse is that the battle against the CPU is literally just this. You just have to press the notes better than the CPU but it’s the same notes for like 3 minutes. This game also has more levels than the first game, and they’re better too! Love the recurring characters. And when you beat the game, you get a blue hat!! Wow!!!! This game is great fun and I recommend playing it for some silly relaxing fun. You gotta believe!
