4/5 ★ – isaiahbot's review of OK/NORMAL.
This could be described as if Eraserhead’s logic and the presentation of LSD Dream Emulator had a baby. Its incredibly authentic 5th gen aesthetic and ambience, mixed with its enigmatic storytelling and symbolism is a great debut from 98Demake (he’s responsible for September 1999 and all those short videos of downgrading modern games). While at times it definitely teeters on the edge of pretentiousness, it’s definitely no Plug & Play or Antichamber in that there’s absolutely a purpose to its surrealism and a story trying to be conveyed. One that I found to be an exploration of medication, relapses, and challenging the patience and the eventual turning away of either those close to you or your own sanity. It sounds like a cliched topic but the way it’s explored (down to its mundane gameplay) and the types of symbolism it uses really stands out to me.
