3/5 ★ – izacreynolds's review of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile - Phantasy Reverie Series.

Finally got round to buying this. This first one is a nice little trip down memory lane. It's nostalgic fun. The remaster as a strenuous grasp on dialogue boxes and how text works I cutscenes but other than that it's progression as a remaster is fine. Some negatives do carry over from the PS1 game however; the ring attack you use to grab enemies has an incredibly narrow and small hit box while every enemy also has an incredibly small and tight hit box. It got very difficult at points to grab enemies without getting hit by them first. Variety of stages didn't expend beyond tripping switches to open locked doors and the platforming was not frustrating or challenging at all really. It's a very short game with a nice little HD polish over it. I was thinking while playing, it's if Crash Bandicoot was nice to look at and well made. The ending to the story slightly shocked me, it eneded on a downer note, not even bitter sweet. Left me thinking I had the bad ending. I may reply this one day. I'm glad I bought it, I'm looking forward to playing through the 2nd and I can only hope for more bright and colourful Klonoa.
