2.5/5 ★ – izacreynolds's review of Sifu.
Sifu started off very promising. It hooked me in with its introduction. But after a while, I was disappointed in its mechanics and its approach towards its replayability.
It has a depthful combat system, but there is a dominant strategy towards every conflict, so a lot of moves I ended up completely ignoring. The addition of ageing was interesting, but the idea of being stuck at said age and being unable to decrease your age efficiently from level to level was such a stupid idea. I have no idea if a roguelite was what this game was going for, but it failed. There's modifiers and cheats that can be obtained, but they would've been better portrayed as challeneges in an extra mode. There's no real reason to use any modifiers as you don't really get any rewards for it that are worth it.
The gameplay was fun enough to keep me playing to the end but there was no replay value for me whatsoever which is a shame because that's clearly what they were going for.
