2.5/5 ★ – jake84's review of Horizon Zero Dawn.
One of the world’s most overrated games. It’s like The Witcher 3 on welfare.
First things first: It has a gorgeous open world with marvelous art direction and great potential, completely wasted by awful voice actors, boring fights and repetitive gameplay. Oh, you just killed three robot dinosaurs the way the assignment explicitly stated it in your inventory? Well, you have to ACTIVATE it first, you idiot, because... games! What? You want to go to that specific place? Um, you have to buy a fast traveling bag, you jackass! You want to buy that armor? Er, you should've kept a weird dinosaur lens, you moron! You want to go there? Well, you go a loooooong distance because we've kept three campfires within two feet of each other because running a long distance in games is fun!
When playing Horizon Zero Dawn, I'm constantly reminded of games I've previously played that did everything here better - Far Cry 3, The Witcher 3, Skyrim and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Nothing here feels fresh - everything is a copy of a copy. The story makes absolutely NO sense and there are so many lame plottwists and so much bad exposition (that ironically ended up making me even more confused) that it must have had rewrites from the same guys that brought us the brain tumor that was Terminator Genisys. The plot just goes on and on and on, and there's so much bad dialogue, and the ending is terrible. So much wasted potential. "Best game since The Last of Us on the PS4"? Don't blaspheme.
