4/5 ★ – jamesfitz3's review of The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood.

Charming game that I bought on a whim that caused me to accidentally stay up until 5 am. Gameplay time probably about 8 hours, but could be longer or shorter depending on how much time you spend customizing your deck. Art: the art is what really drew me in at first. Cute cozy pixel art in a style I really enjoy. And it looks good in both the ""overworld"" and cutscenes. The character design is really fun. The sets are definitely limited but it works with the story and I'm more than happy with the outcome. I mostly played this game with my volume off, so no comment on music or sound design. Story: the story is engaging and fun. There's a lot of world building if you take the time to read all the cards. Also, what's not to like about space witches? There seems to be a lot of points where your choices impact the story. But the lack of endings catalogue makes me wonder how much of that is real and how much is just an illusion of agency through skillful story telling. Even if it's the second one, it didn't feel clunky or weird. My few concerns: I'm not 100% sure if people of color were handled well. There are non white NPCs, but they feel a little stereotypical. Would like to hear a non white person's take on it. It did give me pause. Also, the romance felt REALLY sudden and kind of weird. Was hoping for more dating sim vibes there or at least a more natural development. Either way I did stay up til 5 am to see what happens so. Gameplay: the gameplay was EXTREMELY fun to me, and felt very unique. I loved getting to mix and match and then customize the Oracle deck. Doing that and readings would have been enough for me, but the additional segment where you are resource managing a political campaign was a pleasant and fun surprise. Only gripes are: I wish you could zoom in and out on the backgrounds for oracle card creation. The art is beautiful but most of it gets lost because of the crop. Also the politics part felt kind of too easy, but maybe because I picked the easy person to back. Replayability: I want to play it again at least once to see if different outcomes are possible, to try backing a different politician, and to make different social choices. Depending on how variable all of that actually is, this game could potentially have a TON of replayability. However with visual novel type stuff, my ability to replay it is really dependent on how much I'm forced to sit through the same stuff. If I can't skip cut scenes, it will be difficult for me. Overall a great game and a steal for 16 dollars.
