5/5 ★ – jamoygali's review of Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition.
This game is just wrapped in such a thick and narrative driven atmosphere, yet it says so much by doing so little. As you progress through, you finds hints and pieces of what the story alludes to, and how the world of this bug nest has come to be. The mechanics of movement and combat are so fine tuned to be in progress with the player’s skill as they move on in the exploration tree, as well as providing new modes and methods of getting to places you couldn’t before. Like alot of indie games, majority of its memory resides in its soundtrack (which I value alot in these kind of games), and this one does it absolute justice. As I am typing this review months ahead of time of playing it, some soundtracks still reverberate in my head, either in a nostalgic or soothing fashion. At the moment of recently finishing Undertale, I am torn in between which OST I like better, but at the same time they serve different points to the narrative, which I appreciate. While Undertale’s OST does it justice to provide a perfect picture of character and atmosphere to each melody, Hollow Knight follows more on the somber, dreamlike landscape that has been abandoned; forgotten to only be explored once again: you. This game is far more lovely and personal then I anticipated, and may go down as one of my favorites.
