4.5/5 ★ – jared_c's review of Broforce.
Broforce is unabashedly the most action packed, bro infused, 'murrican game possibe, and leans into it absolutely. It's a side scrolling shooter with maybe some light platforming and puzzles? It's a series of a ton of missions where you just must get from point a to point b, and shoot, whip, grenade, zap, whatever else every bad guy in your way. Along the way you'll find prisoners in cages, that after freeing enough of them you unlock a new "bro". Each of these bros are a character from some 80s or 90s (primarily, a few newer or older) action movie franchise, with a bro pun added to their name. Most of the characters surprisingly play differently whether that's what type of gun used, maybe not even a gun, just throw explosives, or different methods of movement. This keeps the game fresh throughout as comedy often strikes when you get a bro you aren't used to playing as much and completely mess up an attack, expecting something different. There are multiple boss battles throughout, none of which are all that difficult, but some can be a bit frustrating. Thankfully the game reloads incredibly quick and often is generous with the last save checkpoint (as long as you run through them). There is a level editor that I didn't mess around too much with, as enough games in my backlog prevent me from exploring every nook and cranny of every game. But I did play around with it a little bit and it seems pretty extensive for anyone much more creative than I. A lot of fun, especially if you can get friends to play it with after picking it up for it's already pretty low cost of entry!
