2.5/5 ★ – jared_c's review of Trials of the Blood Dragon.

Trials of the Blood Dragon takes the Trials games where you drive a motorcycle through physics based challenges and races, and infuses that with another Ubisoft offshoot title Far Cry: Blood Dragon's aesthetic. Far Cry Blood Dragon was a goofy over the top first person shooter callback to the 80s macho man movies with neon aesthetic. Where this idea came from I have no idea, but it's an experiment that didn't work out. A lot of the core Trials game play is still there with the physics/almost puzzle based levels, but they are way too simplified this time around to where there's no real challenge until almost the very end. What's worse is to go with the weird Blood Dragon storyline they added in, they have added bicycle segments (which control pretty different from the motorcycles), rc car sections (which are just boring), and side scrolling on foot sections where you have to shoot guns. The controls and how these sections play out are painful. 80% of your deaths going through this game will be due to trying to figure out the wonky physics of these sections, and getting killed by the unfairness and unresponsiveness of these sections. I did at least enjoy the attempt at continuing the goofy humor of Blood Dragon, with levels being dedicated to well known movies from the 80s. Some well done humor though isn't enough to save the poor controls and responsiveness of this outing in the Trials series.
