3/5 ★ – jaymewmew's review of Alone in the Dark.

It’s a bit of a mess. It’s disjointed in a lot of ways, the story is nonsensical, the combat is ass and the performances from Jodie Comer and David Harbour feel like PS1/PS2 era acting. But there are aspects, such as mood and atmosphere, that shine in places. I had the most fun when I was just exploring the house and doing puzzles. I played as Emily because I read that the story is tied together better, but it still felt haphazardly strung together, going from one moment to the next, meeting people that seem to know you but you don’t know them. The game never really bothers to provide much context as to who these people are, unless you’re reading every note you come across. I didn’t like it enough to warrant playing through it again as Camby, but for an 8 hour game, you could do worse.
