2.5/5 ★ – jaymewmew's review of ANNO Mutationem.

The pixel art is phenomenal in this game. It’s a joy to look at. Unfortunately that’s really the only positive takeaway I have for Anno Mutationem. The story is confusing and convoluted. I lost the plot fairly early on in the game and never recovered it. You have a disease that’s not really a disease and you’re searching for your lost brother. The rest of the story is sci-fi gobbledygook that makes little effort to make any sense. Pacing is rough too. You spend the second half of this game infiltrating a base and it’s incredibly large and wholly uninteresting. The whole experience just feels incredibly long. The combat is fine. It picks up in speed once you unlock duel swords, but the enemies are bullet sponges that often take forever to take down. There’s crafting and ability trees, but you never really notice any of the benefits as you play through. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
