4.5/5 ★ – jaymewmew's review of Lost Records: Bloom & Rage.

Maybe DONTNOD’s best narrative driven game yet. Definitely the best coming of age story told in this medium. It helps that I too was a stocky kid who grew up in the 90s, was obsessed with movies and made little dopey movies on a camcorder with my friends, so I immediately connected with the main character, Swann. The game also brought back so many memories, from candy and toys, to a very specific memory of renting VHS tapes from Blockbuster and using a camera to copy them onto other VHS tapes. The 90s were so dope to grow up in. The camcorder mechanic itself is pretty unique, and a cool way to view the world through Swann’s lens, and an excellent way to do collectibles. The only issue I had with the game was when different dialogue would overlap with each other, which was pretty frequent. I think they were going for having the characters talk over each other like real people often do, but it didn’t quite work and I felt like I missed some moments/dialogue. Also Corey gets a little too cartoonishly evil. Still an incredible experience if you like these kind of games.
