4/5 ★ – jaymewmew's review of Rain on Your Parade.

This is, sneakily, a great game. It doesn’t hit you at first. You start playing, and the mechanics are pretty simple (you rain on people and objects to make a mess), and you think, “This is fine.” Then you reach the Metal Gear Solid level, and you think, “That’s clever.” Then you reach the The Office level, and you think, “That’s REALLY clever.” Then you reach the Zombie level, and you think, “How is this gonna work?” But it just does. Then you get to the Zelda-inspired level, and you’re just taken aback at the level of creativity on display here. All the while, you’re gaining new abilities: thunder/lightning, snow, tornadoes, and the gameplay continues to open up as you progress. It also has a great sense of humor; self-referential, self-degrading jokes about the gaming industry and the game itself. The game knows what it is, and it executes wonderfully. Ultimately I don’t think the gameplay is compelling enough to warrant trying to find every hidden objective in the game, but I didn’t expect to enjoy this game as much as I did, and I can’t wait to introduce it to my son when he’s old enough to play games.
