4/5 ★ – jdraco's review of Aliens: Alien 2.
(Arcade)
Now this is what I’m talking about. Going from playing Q*bert to playing this game is such a breath of fresh air
It’s like my entire body has been cleansed of all the bullshit that Q*bert brought upon me and now I can finally become one with the universe
And it feels amazing
And playing this game feels pretty damn amazing too
Basically this whole game consists of you just shooting the absolute fuck out of aliens
It’s awesome
Your character just holds a big ass machine gun and you shoot every single alien in sight
There’s no ammo that you have to manage, there’s power-ups that can give you stronger weapons
It’s just nonstop action and I love it
My only minor complaint though is that sometimes there are enemies that can’t be hit with a regular standing attack
So you have to use the other attack which is a crouching shot
And this alone isn’t inherently bad and I don’t hate it, I just don’t like how most of the time it kind of halts your gameplay and momentum to a stop
Because you can’t move and shoot will your crouching, so you just have to kind of crouch in one spot and clear out as many enemies as you can
But then sometimes, while you're crouched and can’t move, enemies can swarm you, and you can’t really do anything about it because, again, you can’t move while you're crouched
It isn’t terrible though and it doesn’t ruin the game for me by any means, but I think just being able to crouch walk would’ve definitely made the game better
As it stands though this is a fantastic arcade game that’s full of nonstop action, it has solid gameplay
And again you get to shoot the absolute fuck out of aliens, so what more could you really as for?
Also for a game that came out in 1990 it’s pretty damn impressive too
Because there are a few moments where it’s almost like a first person shooter and you have to fight things that are in front of you
Which I mean, I guess that they also kind of did this in Contra
But it’s much better executed in this game in my opinion and it feels very satisfying to play
And overall this game in general just feels very satisfying to play and I’d say that it’s definitely in the upper echelon of arcade games that I’ve played
So I’m feeling, a 4/5
