4.5/5 ★ – jkrgamer's review of Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess.

A brilliant genre-blend that will unfortunately be remembered as a hidden gem, even in the year it came out. It may not stand out to most in its trailers, but this Capcom piece is absolutely worth experiencing! And like all Capcom games, it looks amazing with its abundance of particle effects, delightful enemy design, and fun UI elements. Part isometric action game, part RTS/tower defense game, you play as a warrior spirit defending a sacred maiden as you seek to cleanse and purify a mountain of its defilement. It's....awesome. So culturally specific and yet accessible in its simple narrative. You recruit the villagers you save into 11(!) different roles, lending real agency to how you approach a scenario. I love the push and pull as you run around doing the most the damage but having to keep an eye on your recruits, healing and directing them and even switching their roles on the fly. Excellent stuff. There are a few too many boss battles I struggled with, but I think most people will be delighted how many there are. Overall I still got through it, and there's an insane amount of replayability on offer here. If any part of this sparks your interest, please try the free demo and see if it's up your alley. I was not disappointed in what turned out to be a unique, memorable, wonderfully themed work of art.
