3.5/5 ★ – jkrgamer's review of Pepper Grinder.

Another great example of "hey, what if we took that one mechanic and turned it into a whole game?" Before I say anything else, I suggest anyone interested in this game play the demo ASAP. It absolutely rocks and convinced me to buy the game at full price. Now with that out-of-the-way, i'd say Pepper Grinder is a successful low budget indie title in that it does what it sets out to do -- and sticks the landing. Movement through the dirt never not feels amazing; you can tell the developer spent a long time fine-tuning it to make it sure it always felt great. I also like that it's a relatively short game, with just enough optional content to keep completionists happy. Unfortunately I had a lot more disappointments than I expected going into the game. There's really no use for gold, unless you like creating your own sticker pages, which I'm sure is fun for some people, but when I realized that I... no longer had the urge to collect every piece of gold anymore, making level progression a little less fun in the process. I also think the boss battle difficulty spikes were way, WAY too high. The game has an excellent balance of challenge and lighter fun throughout, but that all changes when you reach the end of the world, especially at the end of the game. Still a great game with a great premise though. Again, play the demo to see if it's up your alley, the gameplay is just so solid it's worth trying out at least once.
