3/5 ★ – joemoc's review of Castaway.
This game has all the tools to be so much more than it is. It’s great looking, has pretty good controls, and a weapon/tool system which is a lot of fun to use.
The main problem is there’s simply not much game here. I’m not simply talking about a corny $=time equation here. I mean you barely have any opportunities to use the tools you acquire before the game ends. There’s barely any discovery on this dope looking island before the adventure is over.
Now, they seemed to understand this because they added a second component call The Tower where you traverse through the equivalent of a “survival” type of mode. It’s, again, fun, but it’s also limited and repetitive.
For example, the tower starts the exact same way every time: your character begins outside of the tower. You must walk into the tower, try to enter a doorway, have it push you back, it zaps you to reduce your energy (to make it harder) and then you begin. You have to do this EVERY TIME. Why can’t you start me at the first room?
The game is very affordable and I don’t regret buying it. The game just leaves me with a feeling that it could have been so much more.
