4/5 ★ – johnschwartz's review of IMMORTALITY.
PS5
Thought this would be a slam dunk but found myself more frustrated than I would have liked. I don’t like the gameplay loop of clicking key objects or people and then the algorithm taking you to a random clip featuring that thing you selected. It felt like following a lead was only *vaguely* in my control. And while the non-linearity of the story is cool, the final moment before credits completely fell flat when it didn’t have to. Simply put, I was still deep in the weeds contextualizing the story when the game decided it was over. I went back and kept searching of course but dammit I was mad that moment didn’t give me more time to figure things out.
That said, I’m a few days removed from finishing the game and I haven’t been able to shake it off. The main cast had extremely convincing performances that made the whole thing feel real and because of that it kinda feels like I let an open investigation go cold. I may revisit this someday and maybe even watch all the footage in order, but for now I’ll be closing this case.
