Cyberpunk 2077 is at its core, a solid game. I wasn’t “in love” with Witcher 3 and I really wasn’t expecting to love, let alone like Cyberpunk. And then after hearing how the game was riddled with bugs and game breaking glitches, I just had no idea what I would think of it. Thankfully GameFly let me give it a shot and I got to try it with some patches already released. While the game still has some serious issues, it didn’t destroy my experience. It only crashed a few times which is really saying something considering how many issues arose at launch. There was just one story mission where a glitch just blocked me from progressing it along, but after finding a quick fix it ended up working fine. To shoot it straight, if you have a PC, you’re gonna have the better experience than the consoles, but either way, if you can wait for them to polish it up just a littleeee bit more, I would wait. Maybe it’ll even go on sale at some point too. But hopefully with the right tinkering, this game will find a new life in a year’s time. It’s a fun and an engaging story that pays tribute to some of the best sci fi films like Blade Runner, The Matrix etc. There’s even a fantastic performance by Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand who ended up having a MUCH larger role in the game than I had anticipated. It was welcomed though and once I got through the first act(first 4 hours or so) I was totally hooked into the game. The missions are well versed and worth exploring as you complete other characters storylines and build your relationships with them. The action/customization while similar to games like Fallout/Skyrim, had some nice momentum and I had fun experimenting different combat styles/weapons. The glitches make it pretty fun to watch too as I have tons of hilarious clips where the game just spins out of control. All in all thought I really enjoyed Cyberpunk more than I have a lot of RPG’s within the last few years, and more than I really thought I would. The story is long and full of options on where you choose to take your V’s personality and how they end their story. It’s jam packed with themes and ideas like classism, dystopian nightmares, humanity’s relationship with tech and ai, and just the classic sci fi tropes of finding humanity in a world that seems to survive without it. It’s a shame that Cd Project Red had to meet a quota/crunch this game out for a Christmas release because it’s a great game with great potential, but in its current state, it’s only MAYBE worth getting, at least on consoles. If you can wait, wait. If you can’t, escalate your expectations. This was easily worth a play through for me and I can’t wait to try it again on a better machine. One of the best single player experiences I’ve had in some time. 8/10.
