3/5 ★ – josipher's review of BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger.
A strong start to a flashy Anime fighter. Blazblue does not lack when it comes to the details of its combat, at least to my casual eye. Every character is different (for better or worse) and has their own niche. The barrier to entry may be high, which does make keeping the momentum up annoying, so I’ll knock it a little for that. And then there’s the story.
Calamity Trigger’s gimmick is the time loop. Going through every characters story slightly differently will give you different fights and endings. But some of the criteria you have to meet are ridiculous. As is the fact to 100% a character, you have to see their loss screens for every fight, thankfully you don’t need to 100% to get the true ending, but the story told isn’t exactly coherent in its current form. I hope they can simplify this is coming games.
