3.5/5 ★ – jshatos's review of inFAMOUS.
+ Unique Abilities
+ Cheesy but Enjoyable Writing
- Stiff Mechanics/Animations
- World Feels Empty and Drab
When I played this game closer to launch, it was an enjoyable time, and to be fair was one of the first modern open-world games I played. But while traversing the areas is fun akin to how traversing in Assassin's Creed is fun, the areas of Infamous feel single toned and not very exciting to explore. Returning to it years later, it does not hold up in this respect, though that does not take away from its achievements at the time of release.
The other item that detracts from the game is the stiff controls and animations. Moving the camera to aim the reticle at something feels like it is on a track to move straight up and down or left and right. This may be why a lot of the moves deal with either area effects or slow down time to let you aim more accurately. The enemy animations are jumpy, especially at long distance, sometimes feeling like they jump out of the way in a single frame right as you shoot at them. Zooming in and slowing time helps with this as well, but does not eliminate the issue as a whole. I recommend focusing on AoE powers once you have the choice.
Overall though, there is fun to be had, but I don't think it is worth going back to play if you do not have some sort of nostalgia/fond memories related to it already.
