jwalkercat's review of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
It's kinda hard to write game reviews, since their experiences are much more individual than other art forms. I enjoyed this re game more than the first (1 on steam, 2 and 3 on gamecube), but it's difficult to say how much of that was myself vs the game.
I played on easy, which gives you far too much ammo and unlimited saves, yet I didn't use many more bullets or saves than in re1/2; I instead just felt far less unnecessarily stressed about them. None of the RE games have particularly scared me, which I guess is why any stress I feel is converted to frustration rather than tension.
When playing 1 and 2, I deliberately used fewer saves than I would have if unrestricted, and ended up using only half of the ink ribbons I found. This lead to long sequences of finding out things, then resetting bc I took damage, or resetting bc I went the wrong way, or resetting bc I made it to another safe room, but I could do it better if I tried again. This was a torturous way to play, and sapped most of the fun out of the games. So, given that Easy in 3 allowed me to break from that mindset, it was definitely the correct choice.
Now I don't have much to say about the actual game design. Just copypasted from 2, but without 2 campaigns to play (thank goodness).
I probably won't play code veronica for a while, but I'm glad that I'm genuinely enjoying playing re now.
