3/5 ★ – khonsu's review of EA Sports UFC 4.
UFC 4 boasts fun and intricate gameplay, modes and two awesome arenas. The customization isn’t exactly top tier, though that’s excusable considering you’re making people in shorts and gloves. The biggest flaw I have with the game is the uninspired fighting style customization. It has all the right ingredients there in the career mode, but outside of that it’s very disappointing. The arenas also leave much to be desired, save for the backyard, WFA, UFC Apex, Action Avenue, and Kumite ones. The normal UFC Event ones are bland and offer zero change besides a different line or two from the commentary, and a different background while editing settings and choosing your fighter. Ground Fighting is monotonous and only serves to frustrate players.
Overall, UFC 4 isn’t the most perfect game in the world and it’s littered with small problems that sully the experience. Though that doesn’t stop it from being a fun game you can pop in and play a few rounds in whenever you’re bored and have nothing else to play.
