3/5 ★ – kingy's review of The Spongebob Squarepants Movie.

SpongeBob Movie Game - 6.8 or 7 The SpongeBob Movie Game is an excellent sequel to Bikini Bottom and honestly rivals it to certain aspects. The soundtrack was just like the classic Spongebob Squarepants series and for each stage felt very special and unique. I liked the soundtrack for Rock Slide the most but the Ice Cream place and “Now that we’re men” levels was also very cool and eerie. Of course since it was a game created 2004 the graphics won’t be stunning but for its time it looked awesome and as a kid I loved and now as an adult I loved it, no issues with it at all its how I would expect a SpongeBob game to look like. The gameplay is a little limited at the start and certain levels are locked off until you get further into the game so u can go back to it, I’m not a massive fan of that I would rather like to be able to finish it all at once but that’s a preference really. The abilities are a cool addition however its pretty impossible to complete the game without it and aren’t very explained too well so you just have to learn as you play along. There’s a lot of good mini-games within the actual quest which act as extra tokens within the game. My fav was the sponge ball cause I used enjoy playing monkey ball esque games a lot. One big let down was the final horde battle in planktoplis though as it was just a jellyfish, and I get like haha funny joke but it would’ve been cool if it was a joke within a joke and you actually got to fight 75-100 enemies each wave to make actually feel like an endgame level rather than just a free giveaway token. I don’t think there’s much replay ability as there would be for other games since its a SpongeBob game and it does take a lot out of you I can’t lie however if you are going down a nostalgia lane then I would say try and collect all of the tokens and finish it at 100%. Much more rewarding replaying it as an adult. But once u play it as an adult again then I doubt you would feel any need to play it again unless you are a speedrunner but there prolly isn’t much of a scene for it. The story is just the SpongeBob movie but however a odd fact is that they released the actual game a week earlier than the movie but I doubt many people bought the game before watching the movie. Also there was some extra details within the maps and layouts which were cool that you wouldn’t of seen in the movie. My personal opinion is that its a good game but still has it very obvious flaws but worth replaying for the nostalgia!
