4.5/5 ★ – kubachowicki_'s review of A Plague Tale: Innocence.
'A Plague Tale: Innocence' is probably the most underrated game I've ever had the pleasure of playing. A AA game that feels like a AAA game, with great graphics, simple but efficient gameplay, and a damn great score.
Taking a deep dive into a dark period in history, the plague, we also get throw into the land of Medieval France, which to me is such a great setting for a game, even though it is ravaged and torn apart.
The story is simply brilliant. A tale of innocence, as the title of the game suggests, of two children. The story is really touching and emotional, often leaving you feeling bad for a lot of the characters, and sometimes leaving you distressed, jaw dropped or just plain shocked. Aside from the brilliant plot that blends history with dark fantasy, which can often make it feel borderline horror, the game does a great job at allowing us to connect with the characters, by bringing out the humanity in them.
The side content is all collectables and is all really easy to grab, and this might also be the easiest platinum trophy I'll ever get, purely because of how quick it was to get.
The only downside for me is the lack of new game +, but you can replay the story through chapter select with your upgrades anyways, so it's not a big deal, and the fact that the story is very very short. However, in that short time, it manages to tell such a brilliant story. I also could not help but notice the certain parallels between parts of this game's elements and some of The Witcher's lore.
