2.5/5 ★ – kubachowicki_'s review of Assassin's Creed III: The Tyranny of King Washington.
The Tyranny of King Washington is a very weird DLC for me. I actually like it even less on this replay than I did when I first played it. It has absolutely no relevance to the main story in any way as it is set in an alternate reality. The story in itself, split across three episodes, The Infamy, The Betrayal and The Redemption, isn't bad per se, but it's also not really engaging to me and fails to keep me interested. I understand and appreciate the message it presents, where we see a Piece of Eden corrupting the weak minds who wield it, but it all just feels very lacklustre. The animal spirit abilities, while cool and unique, are blatantly overpowered and also very out there. Ironically, it's things like this in the newer Assassin's Creed games that people love to whine and complain about. The amount of optional objectives that are stealth-focused in this DLC in comparison to the main game is laughable considering stealth in Assassin's Creed III is the worst in the whole franchise.
Also, the fact that you need to 100% this DLC to get the platinum trophy on Assassin's Creed III Remastered is quite silly. A DLC should have no say on any platinum trophy for its main game, let alone having to 100% it. It should be a second tab in the trophy section when you click on the game, the way pretty much any other game has it. During Episode 3, I was checking my synchronisation progress after almost every mission, just wanting it to end. That's how fed up I was with this DLC.
