4.5/5 ★ – lolzy_mcroflmao's review of Hardspace: Shipbreaker.
I've had Shipbreaker downloaded on PC for over a year now, and would frequently revisit the title as it was updated through Early Access. The game presents itself as a "work simulator" which in essence it is, however I found it to be more of a spatial puzzle game. How do I tackle this style of ship? How do I get the reactor out with blowing the whole thing up? How can I maximise my own profit in the 15 minute slots?
The game does provide a narrative, though this may be one of the weaker aspects. The story merely happens around you. Your character partakes only in that they were allowed to hear it happening. That said, I did get utterly sucked in at the climax of the story.
Gameplay provides such an interesting blend of time/resource management and problem solving (which are often in conflict of one another), which leads to learning the optimal flows of different ship types and subsystems on-board.
The soundtrack is also absolutely perfect for the game. I just wish it was on streaming platforms to add to my playlist!
