4.5/5 ★ – lucashiatt's review of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Better story than the first just disappointingly short especially since I am really fond of the character of Miles and I’m not just letting Spider-Man into the spider-verse get in the way of that. I genuinely find the combat and swinging so much better than the first. The swinging is so much smoother in this game because miles is obviously uncomfortable with swinging but every jump and dive perfectly syncs into the next. With Peter Parker, everything is so uniform and easy but miles’ combat and swinging has so much personality. Although lacking in devices and gadgets, the stealth is incredible. This game gives you the ability to go completely invisible after you take down an enemy which made my approach to combat a lot different. But if you don’t want to be stealthy in every approach, that’s okay, the game gives you the option to mow down guys with Miles’ new venom attack. There are several different moves you can do with it that affect your combat. The venom also doesn’t just affect combat, it affects the puzzles which gives a lot more purpose to the puzzles than the last game. So if the story, combat and swinging is better in this than the first, what makes this worse? Well, it has to do with the open world and length but let me talk about the open world first. I love the Harlem side missions but beating up bad guys in random encounters and doing some of the other new activities sucks. 100 percenting this was absolutely trash since I just got completely uninterested in fighting bad guys. The new open world activities they added also sucked as I mentioned earlier. Sampling sounds for uncle Aaron was terrible. Roxxon and underground bases were boring and finding underground cache got real tedious. In the first game, unlocking towers was fun because you got to swing around the city to new locales and aligning the wave lengths was super satisfying. And yes, the length is another problem for me but I think that speaks for itself. They could’ve taken a bit more time to flesh out the characters. Aside from that it was a great game. Total play time to beat story: 7 hours
