4/5 ★ – lunarobserver's review of Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition.

Honestly, don’t remember much about this game considering I’m writing this after I played Will of the Wisps. Because they’re similar games and I played them in the span of three months everything kinda melded together. I do remember a few problems I had with this first game, though. First, I got softlocked and had to revert my save which is just frustrating and was not my fault. While this isn’t a horrible development mistake it just took away from the experience and was pretty annoying. Secondly, the combat was not very intuitive at all. The entire extent of the combat was just mashing the Y button until the enemies were dead, and this never changed. While this did make you focus more on platforming and less on combat, the combat could have been so interesting (and it was in the sequel!). The story (especially the intro) was so emotional and well written. The music wasn’t as good as the second game, but still great. Overall, there’s really no point to playing this game when Will of the Wisps exists unless you want to experience the story, the second game is straight up better in every way.
