The 16-bit version of “Thunder Paw” was the Evercade Game of the Month for May 2023, and it's just... fine. I didn't mind the weapon recoil, and liked the exploration based platforming gameplay, but it lacked variety and the ending was incredibly unceremonious. Just a black screen with white text reading, congratulations, now try hard mode. Yeah — that's a dumb throwback, but after the animated intro, I was hoping for more. Graphics are nice, if not a bit gray. Enemy projectiles fail to stand out above the background artwork, making them difficult to spot. Generally, though, the gameplay is compelling — it just plays things far too safe to be worth any score above an “average”. 5/10, Evercade EXP
