4/5 ★ – marcyoatht's review of Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition.

Another brilliant adventure. This game balances cozy inventory and resource management with maintaining good relationships with the crew you bring aboard to help into the afterlife. Most of what makes the game work so well is the relationships and story of the characters you interact with throughout the games runtime. What doesn't work? Well..Most of the gameplay is focused on running menial tasks and fetch quests over up to 30 hours of gameplay that hinders the overall experience. It ruins the flow of some stories, and outright puts it on hold for others based on how you've built your ship. I don't mind it so much, but the game would've been so much tighter with a lot less focus on these aspects, and it could've shaved about 10 hours of run time. It detracts especially from the story of your character, which despite a few inklings here and there, gets her story crammed in what's meant to be the final hour of the game. Overall, it was a pleasant enough experience that I wanted to spend the time with it, get to know these characters, and feel the emotional weight each departure brings.
